Suffering From Fibromyalgia, Deal With A Person, comprehension

fibromyalgia complications, researchers, awareness, deal with FMS

It can be very stressful not being able to help a person in pain. It gets worse if you cannot understand why there is pain to begin with. People with fibromyalgia syndrome or FMS live with pain all the time. Their problem is that they cannot prove the pain. It just exists. There is no cut, no bruise, no external or internal injury. The concept somehow defies and challenges our senses.

However, the victims of FMS is not just the person suffering from this disease, because the people around her are forced to deal with the issue themselves, and in many cases, relationships are corroded and destroyed.

How then, can we help all the victims of FMS help each other? Here are some tips on how to do it.

Understand the problem. With knowledge comes comprehension, and then we have empathy. Awareness is sadly lacking when it comes to fibromyalgia. Even the medical community are not completely in the know about this condition. For some doctors, they only just learned about FMS in the past couple of years because of an intense campaign to teach others about it.

As you learn about FMS, you will know what the best sources for updates are. There is a race today to study more about fibromyalgia. Medical researchers are keen on developing a drug that would address the problems of FMS. At present, the drug that was approved in 2007 was originally used to treat nerve problems and seizures. Other prescribed drugs are antidepressants and pain relievers.

If your family member or friend is not getting enough answers from her doctor, help her look for another. The right doctor should be able to provide at the very least, some alternatives for pain relief, as well as a shoulder to lean on.

People with FMS can easily break down under the pressure and pain. Your role would also be to prop them up when they need it the most, and push them to move when they start to get depressed and discouraged. The hope and positive outlook is not something you can keep on 24/7, but your advantage is that you are not feeling the pain, and you can walk away from the problem. They can’t.

You need to find ways to distract them, to keep their hopes up, and to provide them space to work out their mental and emotional struggles.

Encourage them to join an exercise program. People with fibromyalgia need to stretch their muscles regularly. Being active will relieve the pain., but of course the physical activity must be done in moderation. They should never join a high impact course. Stick to walking, swimming, or low impact aerobics.

Finally, just by being around and not being judgmental is one of the best gifts you can give to this person.
